Injuries have been a major problem for Celtic throughout Ange Postecoglou’s time as the manager of the club. It was understandable last time around, when the Hoops did not have much squad depth, especially in the first half of the campaign. But the same cannot be said now, as they have made several additions since then, and have multiple options in most areas of the pitch.
Yet, there are only so many injuries that any squad can deal with and once again, it looks like Celtic’s is pushing the limit.
Defence can be a particular area of worry at the moment. Carl Starfelt has been struggling with injuries on-and-off, since the end of last season. On the other hand, Cameron Carter-Vickers got injured in the recent game vs Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.
As tweeted out by Anthony Joseph, US Soccer had described Carter-Vickers’ injury as “minor”. But now, it looks like the situation could be worse than first believed.
Celtic handed worry as Carter-Vickers’ injury could be worse than first believed
As reported by Football Insider, Frank McAvennie said:
"“He’s a huge miss and apparently he’s going to be out for a while, from what I’ve heard.“It’s not ideal with the games coming thick and fast but the international break will have done him good. He’ll be getting worked on and hopefully he’ll be back in a couple of weeks.”"
It is safe to say that Celtic fans would be hoping to see Carter-Vickers back in the mix as soon as possible, especially after seeing the performance that the duo of Moritz Jenz and Stephen Welsh delivered in the 2-0 defeat at the hands of St Mirren away in Paisley.
There is no doubt about the fact that Carter-Vickers is one of the most important players in the current Celtic squad and perhaps often does not get the credit that he deserves, as he is not the one putting the ball into the back of the net.
But his importance is felt in his absence and one can only hope that he is back in action soon, because he is someone who raises the game of everyone around him.
