Celtic have been left sweating during the international break, with a few of their players suspected to have picked up injury problems. One of them is Giorgos Giakoumakis, who is away with the Greek national team. Rumours suggest that he felt some discomfort and underwent a scan. And although it did not show anything, the striker missed training recently.

Naturally, Celtic fans have been left fearing the worst. Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt are already out on the sidelines with injuries, while Daizen Maeda seems to be an injury concern at the moment as well.

Thus, it goes without saying that fans, Ange Postecoglou and everybody else associated with Celtic will be hoping that Giakoumakis has not been seriously injured and their hopes seem to have received a boost in that regard.

Greece are set to face Northern Ireland next and Giakoumakis has not been completely ruled out of that game yet, which would suggest that his injury is not serious. As reported by The Herald, manager Gus Poyet told the media:

"“50-50 for Celtic Giorgos Giakoumakis and Trabzonspor Tasos Bakasetas to play tomorrow v Northern Ireland.”"

Greek manager has given an update on Celtic star Giakoumakis’ injury status before Northern Ireland match

Whether Giakoumakis ends up playing or not for Greece against Northern Ireland, would not be of much concern to Celtic.

The bigger thing for the Hoops is the fact that he is still in contention, which is good news. Also, it would be better for Celtic if Giakoumakis does not end up featuring against Northern Ireland, as playing would mean that there would be a risk that he could end up aggravating his injury.

Whatever maybe the case, the fans should be happy that Giakoumakis has managed to avoid any serious injury. If both him and Maeda went down injured in the same international break, that would cut down the Hoops’ options going forward.
