Celtic have a number of top players in their side at the moment. They have important names all over the pitch, whether it be Joe Hart in goal or Kyogo Furuhashi up top. The style of football that Ange Postecoglou’s side play means that the Hoops are a well-oiled engine, with each player having his particular role and there is no clear star man as such, even though a few have stood out over time.

Who is Celtic’s most important player though? That is a question that might have risen in the minds of a lot of fans at some point or another.

And there are a lot of players in this team who have a shout. Kyogo, Jota, Callum McGregor, even Giorgos Giakoumakis for his incredible displays in the second half of last season when he almost carried the goalscoring burden at times. But in the eyes of Chris Sutton, Cameron Carter-Vickers is the one who is most important to Celtic right now.

The former Celtic striker wrote in his column in the Daily Record:

"Cameron Carter Vicker is Celtic’ s most important player.I’m not saying he’s the most skilful or the most talented in terms of ability. That’s a label reserved for a Callum McGregor or a Jota. But, in terms of importance to the side and being missed when he isn’t there, Carter-Vickers has long been in the irreplaceable category."

Sutton picks perfect choice as Celtic’s most important player

It goes without saying that Carter-Vickers is a very important part of this team and we saw proof of that in the recent game against St Mirren.

Celtic appeared to collapse in a game that nobody had expected them to, in the absence of Carter-Vickers at the back and the combination of Stephen Welsh and Moritz Jenz conceded twice as many goals in the game as they had in every league game combined before that this season.

That is quite the stat and would favour Sutton’s decision to pick Carter-Vickers ahead of so many other big names like Jota, Kyogo and others. Of course, one has to point out that Carl Starfelt has been missing recently through injury as well.
