As Scotland head to the top of their Nations League group and possible promotion, the mood is quite different for England. And some jokes from Aston Villa fans amidst all this will surely amuse Celtic fans, as they have come at the expense of former Rangers boss, Steven Gerrard.
England’s 1-0 defeat against Italy leaves them bottom of their group. The Three Lions’ last 5 matches have seen them suffer 4 losses and 1 draw, against Germany thanks to a controversial late penalty from Harry Kane. Their last goal from open play came from Raheem Sterling 6 games and 495 minutes ago, against Ivory Coast in March.
That’s a pretty poor run of form with the Qatar World Cup fast approaching and has dramatically put the focus and increased the pressure on their manager, Gareth Southgate.
Questions are being raised on whether he is the right manager to lead them into the World Cup. Aston Villa fans do seem to have it all figured out though!
Celtic fans will surely be amused by Aston Villa supporters’ joke at the expense of Gerrard
The poor performances and lack of goals have led to calls for Southgate to be replaced. Some Aston Villa fans have stepped in though, with the tongue in cheek suggestion of handing Gerrard the national team job on Twitter:
I'm sure all villa fans will put country above club and allow Gerrard to take the reigns surely he's in the running he's doing such a great job for us

I think Steven Gerrard would be ideal for the England manager's job 😂

The best manager for the job just went to Chelsea 😒 second best attacking English manager is probably Dean Smith 😂 but hey if England can take Gerrard off us I’ll be happy

It is safe to say that this goes on to show the impact that Gerrard has gone on to have at Aston Villa, that a lot of their fans would be happy enough to see him leave and take the England job in the middle of the season.
Even though Gerrard did manage the Rangers to an invincible league campaign, his record at Ibrox was not particularly great either, as they won only one out of nine domestic titles that they contested for under the former Liverpool star’s management. Let’s just say he has a history of letting trophies ‘slip’.
