Despite their recent 2-0 defeat at the hands of St Mirren away at Paisley, Celtic are in a good spot right now. They are two points ahead in the Premiership and their 4-0 win over the Rangers at Parkhead showed the gulf in quality between the Glasgow giants. On the other hand, they are still in with a shot of qualifying for Champions League knockout phases as well and have impressed in the competition.

Their biggest recent worry though has been the future of Ange Postecoglou. The manager was linked with the Brighton & Hove Albion job after Graham Potter moved to Chelsea to replace Thomas Tuchel.

And one can rest assured that as more Premier League managers are sacked, the name of Postecoglou will continue to crop up in the rumour mill as a potential candidate to replace them.

Thus, it would make sense for Celtic to offer Postecoglou a long-term deal, as then, they will have more control over the situation. It is believed that the former Australian national team boss was handed a one-year rolling contract when he arrived.

As reported by Football Insider, Celtic are keen to tie Postecoglou down to an improved long-term deal after he was shortlisted by Brighton. The Hoops are planning to increase the manager’s wages with what one source said is a “huge” offer and are keen to insert a release clause into any new contract.

It remains to be seen how things transpire from here on but if this is indeed the case then it is very positive.

Postecoglou has become the face of the current Celtic side and the attacking brand of football that they have been playing under his management. He is certainly one of the best that the club have had in a long time and will hopefully remain at Parkhead for years to come.
