International breaks are always a double-edged sword and Celtic have been left sweating once again. Players leave clubs with the aspiration to represent their countries at the international level, but that always comes with a risk of injury. Now, it remains to be seen if the Hoops are able to survive their latest scare.

This time, the concern is around Greek forward, Giorgos Giakoumakis. Since joining the club in the summer transfer window of 2021, the 27-year-old has impressed everyone with his brilliant performances.

The Heraklion-born forward was included in the Greece national team squad for their Nations League games against Cyprus and Northern Ireland.

Owing to a prior suspension, he was already out of the game against Cyprus. But now with questions hovering around his fitness level, he might not even make the game against Northern Ireland unless he is given the all clear by then.

Several rumours broke out earlier that Giakoumakis was suspected to have suffered a thigh injury in training. Now, as tweeted out by Giannis Chorianopoulos, the Greek striker underwent a scan because he felt a little problem in his leg but it did not show anything, although he will be under check of the national team’s medical team:

The fact that the scans have showed nothing serious is good news without a shadow of a doubt. Giakoumakis is an extremely important player for Celtic, even more so as Kyogo seems to be going through a goal drought of his own at the moment.

With no clear injury, it would not be a surprise if Giakoumakis ended up playing a part in Greece’s upcoming game against Northern Ireland. Let’s hope that nothing else emerges between now and then, and he is able to return to Celtic fit and in form.
