When Celtic and the Rangers met at Parkhead earlier this season, they did not seem like two teams who were on the same level or even anywhere near. The Hoops walked out with a commanding 4-0 win while the Ibrox fans were left questioning whether Giovanni van Bronckhorst was good enough. The lead had been stretched to five points.
But things can change very quickly in football. Celtic have not won since that game. They have lost to Real Madrid and drawn against Shakhtar Donetsk. But the surprise came against St Mirren, who managed to not only beat the Hoops but completely outplay them.
That was a major blow for Celtic to say the least and it is safe to say that they need to regroup and bounce back quickly. On the other hand, the lead at the top has been cut to two points and the Rangers have been handed a lifeline.
But now, it looks like Van Bronckhorst’s side have suffered another untimely injury blow. As reported by the Scottish Daily Express, Rangers are facing a defensive crisis at the moment with Leon King picking up a knock.
Rangers have defensive crisis as they try to chase down Celtic
Rangers have definitely had their problems at centre-back this season. Several of their defenders seem to be struggling with fitness problems at the moment and that could lead to John Lundstram having to fill in there.
Of course, that is not good news for the Ibrox club as they hope to chase down Celtic. One would expect Ange Postecoglou’s side fired up to bounce back after the international break.
Interestingly, Celtic have their injury issues at centre-back right now as well. Both Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers are out of action at the moment, while the performances of Moritz Jenz and Stephen Welsh against St Mirren left a lot to be desired.
