Football has taken a huge leap in a short period of time when it comes to developing and improving in certain off-field aspects, which were overlooked not too long ago. Clubs from across the globe, including Celtic, are now relying on data to assess the past and influence the future.

The general feeling suggests that it gives clubs an overall edge. And considering that more clubs are now getting interested in instilling a specialised team of data analysts and sports scientists, it somewhat suggests that the team are getting its benefits, which is why the idea continues to be promoted.

Sports science for example is based on the idea to come up with strategic objectives to prevent injury and to enhance individual and collective athletic performance as well as to manage and lead the development of long-term load and athletic development planning.

It has become an important role in modern football, as more and more games are played everyday and athletic ability has now become more important to succeed in the game than ever before.

Former Celtic man joins Premier League club Everton

As reported by Liverpool World, Everton have announced the appointment of Jack Nayler as their new head of sports science. On the back of the announcement, their director of football, Kevin Thelwell, said:

"“Jack is one of the best in his profession and we are delighted for him to become a key part of our First-Team setup.“He is hugely respected in the field of sports science, highlighted by the fact he has worked for some of the best clubs in Europe, and his expertise will further strengthen our talented backroom team at Everton.”"

Nayler has a vast work experience across clubs like Chelsea, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. There he had worked with former Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti. Before spending 15 months with RB Leipzig in Germany, he also had a spell with Celtic.

Someone with his top level experience could certainly help a club like Everton, who have struggled in recent times with both injuries and performances on the pitch. They barely stayed up last season and will be hoping to avoid a relegation battle this time around.
