With all these documentaries being made on footballers these days, it would not be a surprise if Andrew Robertson got one some day, considering his fascinating journey from being released by Celtic during his youth career to winning every title possible with Liverpool and becoming the captain of the Scotland national team. It has been quite the ride for the left-back.

Of course, there were road bumps along the way, whether it be playing in the Scottish third division with Queen’s Park or being relegated twice from the Premier League during his time at Hull City.

A £8 million switch to Liverpool changed his entire career though. Most people had expected him to be a bench player for the Reds but he has established himself as a regular, playing a key part in their success, and will surely go down as a club and Premier League legend. Quite the journey, especially when his dream was to play for Celtic.

As reported by the Daily Record, while speaking about his release from Celtic, Robertson told BT Sport’s Currie Club Podcast:

"“Height was a part of it, also the physicality – I wasn’t exactly muscle-bound. I got released at a time of quite a lot of change at Celtic. Quite a lot of players at all age groups got released.”"

Celtic made a massive mistake by releasing Robertson

Robertson has never really closed the door to a possible move to Celtic one day to fulfil his childhood dream but at the same time, it would be very complicated to pull off.

Robertson is still a key player for Liverpool and at 28 years of age, it is unlikely that he will be leaving the Reds anytime soon.

At the same time though, he has been pretty clear that he would not want to go to Celtic at a point of his career when he is no longer able to perform on the pitch. Thus, it will be interesting to see if the time is ever right for him to make that move to Parkhead one day.
