Celtic are in the middle of another gruelling season where they will have to compete in four tournaments at least, and five if they drop down from the Champions League to the Europa League. What makes the campaign even longer this time around though is the World Cup set to played later this year in Qatar.

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the decision to host the World Cup in Qatar and shaking up the entire footballing calendar. Concerns have been raised about players’ health and increased risk of injuries.

Despite that, it is safe to say that every footballer will want to be part of the biggest tournament on the planet and one Celtic player who has a great chance of making it is Aaron Mooy, who was instrumental in Australia’s qualification for the World Cup.

And Ange Postecoglou has made it clear that Mooy will get enough playing time leading up to the World Cup. As reported by Glasgow Live, the Celtic manager told Adelaide Now:

"“We’ve taken our time with him to get him up to speed.“He’s in a good place back in Scotland with his family, playing again for a big club. We’ve got a hell of a program after this international break.“We have 13-14 games in 6-7 weeks, so he’ll have plenty of football before the World Cup and be raring to go.”"

The only thing about this is that Mooy is not a regular starter for Celtic at the moment. At best, he is someone who is brought in in the second half in order to see out games.

And even when Mooy has been on the pitch, he has not been particularly impressive and some fans have already raised questions about whether the club made the right call by signing the Australian.

Of course, everyone cannot be a starter and in Callum McGregor, Matt O’Riley and Reo Hatate, Celtic have three fantastic midfielders.

Mooy has a role in this team though and he can expect to get minutes off the bench and the occasional start ahead of the World Cup, especially with the schedule so hectic. Hopefully, he will make the most of it.
