Celtic fans will not be happy with Ronny Deila’s comments

Ronny Deila spent a couple of years managing Celtic and enjoyed quite a bit of success in terms of winning silverware, but looking back, that period is not considered as a major success in the history of the club. Instead, they would begin their true domination of Scottish football after he was replaced by Brendan Rodgers in the managerial hot seat.

Deila would make a confusing move to Valerenga after leaving Celtic. It was not the most successful spell but he would then resurrect his career by moving to the MLS and joining New York City FC.

There he tasted silverware again and is now back in Europe, managing Belgian side, Standard Liege, who got a 3-0 win over Club Brugge recently.

And Deila seems to have been impressed by the fans at Standard Liege, perhaps even more so than that of Celtic. As reported by Glasgow Live, the former Celtic manager said:

"“This was a day that I will remember for the rest of my life. These are special moments.“I was at Celtic before, but this is the same and maybe better.“What the people here do to support the team is incredible. I am very proud of the players and the team.”"

Former Celtic manager Deila makes bold claim

It is safe to say that that is a bold claim on the part of Deila, as Celtic are widely considered as arguably the best supported team in the world. If not, then they are certainly near the top of the list.

Of course, he is managing Standard Liege now and that is his opinion, and he is certainly entitled to have one. A lot of Celtic fans might not be left too pleased about the claim though.

In Ange Postecoglou, Celtic have a manager now who has become a fan favourite in a very short period of time. After guiding them to a Premiership and League Cup double last season, when there were little to no expectations surrounding the club, the former Australian national team boss has almost become a cult figure amongst the Parkhead faithful. On the other hand, we wish success to Deila at Standard Liege.
