Celtic have managed just one point from their opening two Champions League games, despite putting in good performances on both occasions. While playing great football is well and good, they will now have to start picking up some points as well, if they are to make the last 16 of the competition. Thus, their upcoming two games against RB Leipzig, home and away, are going to be very important.
RB Leipzig have changed managers recently, showing Domenico Tedesco the exit door and bringing in Marco Rose.
That produced a great 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund and a very good performance vs Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu despite losing 2-0. But now, RB Leipzig’s confidence has been handed another hammer blow, as they lost 3-0 against Borussia Monchengladbach this weekend.
After this, there is the international break. They will face VfL Bochum straight after that, before taking on Celtic. And their form is not RB Leipzig’s only worry.
RB Leipzig suffer double blow before facing Celtic
RB Leipzig are going through their injury problems as well. And as reported by Sky Sport Germany (via Daily Record), Konrad Laimer will miss six weeks after undergoing surgery – meaning he would miss both the home game against the Hoops on October 5 and the return encounter at Celtic Park six days later.
Laimer is one of RB Leipzig’s most highly rated players and it goes without saying that this is a major blow for them heading into two very vital Champions League games against Celtic.
On the other hand, Celtic will need to up their game as well and find their scoring boots before taking on RB Leipzig. There has been very little to complain about their performances or effort lately, but their inefficiency in front of goal has cost them time after time. They could have easily beaten Shakhtar Donetsk and even potentially gotten a result vs Real Madrid.
