Rangers want former Manchester City star as they struggle vs Celtic
Most fans had expected this to be a very tight title race between Celtic and the Rangers. But at the moment, that is not looking like the case. Ange Postecoglou’s side have started the season right where they left off and are performing in Scotland and in Europe.
The same cannot be said about the Rangers though. Their win this weekend brought an end to a three game losing streak, during which they had conceded 11 unanswered goals against Celtic, Ajax and Napoli, respectively.
Thus, it is safe to say that there does seem to be quite a bit of distance between Celtic and the Rangers at the moment, and they seem to be looking to close that gap by bringing in a former Manchester City and Everton player as a free agent.
As reported by Football League World, Rangers are taking a keen interest in Fabian Delph, who is also wanted by the likes of Sheffield United, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, West Bromwich Albion and Reading.
Rangers want to bring in former Manchester City star as they struggle to keep up with Celtic
Delph was a star during his time at Aston Villa and played quite a bit of football for the England national team during his prime as well. The midfielder also represented clubs like Manchester City, Everton and Leeds United during the course of his career.
He is now available as a free agent and to be honest, at 32 years of age, is nowhere near his best anymore.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, Delph played 665 minutes of football and made 11 appearances for Everton last season. And that was a side that struggled to remain in the Premier League and barely managed to escape relegation.
Thus, even if the Rangers manage to sign Delph, it is unlikely that it will create a huge difference in the title race.
