Celtic are stacked in a number of positions on the pitch at the moment, which is remarkable when you consider how thin this squad was just a year earlier and Ange Postecoglou was being forced to play people out of position. It is safe to say that the Hoops have come a long way since then and one of their strongest areas right now is goalkeeper.

Joe Hart was signed from Tottenham Hotspur last summer and has established himself as the undisputed number one with his performances and leadership. On the other hand, Benjamin Siegrist has been brought in on a free transfer this summer. Scott Bain is also at the club while Vasilis Barkas is having a great season on loan at FC Utrecht and is back in the Greek national team picture.

On the other hand, Celtic’s youth ranks have two brilliant goalkeepers as well in the form of Tobi Oluwayemi and Josh Clarke. Both are very highly rated and could potentially challenge for a first-team spot in the future.

The club have lost one of their most highly rated young goalkeepers recently though in the form of Rory Mahady. Leeds United announced his signing on scholarship terms on their official website.

Leeds United have signed highly rated Celtic goalkeeper

Mahady recently announced on his Instagram that he had left Celtic, bringing an end to his 9-year stint in the club’s youth ranks.

Thus, Mahady joins a quickly growing list of very highly rated Celtic youngsters who have left the Hoops for clubs down South, before ever breaking into the first-team picture at Parkhead.

This is something that Celtic need to find a way to stop from happening because their youth ranks are suffering because of it and it is one of the biggest reasons why the club have not been able to bring through many youngsters into the first-team in recent years.
