Shakhtar star makes huge Celtic and RB Leipzig comparison
If Celtic had taken their chances against Shakhtar Donetsk, they could have easily walked out of Warsaw with all the points and three or four goals to their name. But instead, Ange Postecoglou’s side were found wanting in front of goal in the Champions League once again, and could only manage a 1-1 draw.
That is an area of the game that Celtic will need to improve drastically if they are to be successful in their upcoming games in the competition. We know that these players can score. The Hoops have found the back of the net 25 times in the Premiership this season in just 6 games. But in Europe, they seem to be lacking composure and efficiency in the final third of the pitch.
The upcoming games against RB Leipzig, both home and away, could prove to be very vital for Celtic and their hopes of making it to the knockout phases of the Champions League this season.
And Valeriy Bondar of Shakhtar Donetsk, who featured for the entire 90 minutes against both sides, said about the two teams, as reported by his club’s official website:
"“I got a great impression of our today’s opponent. We completely understood that the match is going to be tough and prepared specifically for the meet with Celtic. Coach emphasized that it will be more difficult than it was with RB Leipzig. Currently, this club is better than RB Leipzig, so we were very scrupulous about the game and did our best on the field. We did everything to win and to entertain our fans.”"
Shakhtar Donetsk star feels Celtic are better than RB Leipzig at the moment
Shakhtar Donetsk completely outplayed RB Leipzig in a 4-1 win last week but had to hang onto a 1-1 draw against Celtic.
That is not giving the full context of Celtic’s upcoming games against the German club though. In between they have changed managers.
Domenico Tedesco has been replaced by Marco Rose and they have looked much better recently. They got a 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund last weekend and took the game to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in mid-week, only losing 2-0 owing to a couple of late goals from the European champions. Thus, it won’t be easy for Celtic by any stretch of the imagination.
