Celtic boss finally responds to Brighton & Hove Albion link
Ange Postecoglou will be managing in the UEFA Champions League for the second time in his career when Celtic take on Shakhtar Donetsk in Warsaw. The first game was a memorable one vs Real Madrid but ultimately, it did end in a 3-0 defeat for the Hoops and the manager will surely be looking to change that, and pick up his first points in Europe’s elite competition.
Celtic will know that if they lose both of their opening games, then it will be very difficult for them to make it out of their group and into the knockout phase. Thus, it is important that they take something out of this game.
Interestingly, the build up to this match has been clouded by rumours linking Postecoglou with the Brighton & Hove Albion job, after Graham Potter left the post in order to join Chelsea recently.
Postecoglou himself has finally given his reaction to the rumour. And while he sounded like someone who was only focused on the job at hand at Celtic, he also did not completely close the door on a possible move to the Seagulls though. As reported by the Daily Record, the manager said:
"“It’s not really relevant in my world or in my space. I have done that my whole career, I have just focused on being as successful as I can for the club I represent. If I do that, everything else takes care of itself because things change pretty quickly in football.“If I’m not successful here, it won’t be other options that open up for me, it’ll be this one that closes.”"
Celtic boss responds to rumours linking him to the Brighton & Hove Albion job
Perhaps most Celtic fans would have been hoping for a more emphatic denial from the manager, but for the time being, this will have to do.
This is something that they will need to get used to as well. With the amount of success that Postecoglou has enjoyed at Celtic, he will continue to get linked with Premier League jobs every time one of the managers in the English top flight gets sacked.
Thus, those associated with Celtic cannot afford to get distracted by rumours. There are some huge games coming up for them this season and as long as they continue winning on the pitch, everything will be fine.
