All matches in the United Kingdom at the weekend, including Celtic’s one against Livingston, were postponed due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Football will be returning this midweek with the Champions League, although some games in the upcoming weekend have been called off as well.

Celtic will be taking to the pitch against Shakhtar Donetsk in Warsaw, due to the unfortunate situation in Ukraine right now. And it is a very important game for both these teams.

Celtic lost their opening game of the competition against Real Madrid by a 3-0 scoreline even though the performance on the night earned them a lot of praise. On the other hand, Shakhtar Donetsk shocked the world by beating RB Leipzig 4-1 in their Champions League opener and will be hoping to make it two out of two when Ange Postecoglou’s side come visiting on matchweek 2.

As reported by The Herald, UEFA have confirmed the commemorative plans of United Kingdom clubs to honour The Queen:

"“In commemoration of Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth II, the following will take place for matches involving UK teams as the home team during the pre-match ceremony: No centre-circle/pitch banners/arch, No UEFA Champions League anthem, Moment of silence/black armbands, No pre-match sponsor activations/player mascots.“Additionally, the following will take place for matches involving UK teams as the away team during the pre-match ceremony: Moment of silence/black armbands.”"

Celtic will be playing their game away in Warsaw and thus, it looks like it will be a moment of silence/black armbands for the Bhoys.

It will be interesting to see how Celtic perform on the day. As the game vs Livingston was cancelled at the weekend, they have gotten quite a bit of time to concentrate on the challenge that they will be facing against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Shakhtar Donetsk have a very young side and not many people expected much out of them coming into the competition. But with their big win over RB Leipzig in the opening game, it is safe to say that European clubs are taking notice of them now and Celtic will need to be careful on the day. Interestingly, Maryan Shved could be their star man.
