Matt O’Riley has proven to be another major transfer success of the Ange Postecoglou era at Celtic. The Hoops signed him from MK Dons in January and he has gone on to establish himself as a regular starter. Not only that, but his performances seem to have caught the eye of some of the biggest clubs in the world and the youngster was linked with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

Fortunately, O’Riley has remained at Celtic and is showing why he is so highly rated with his performances on the pitch.

The midfielder will surely have hopes of being called up to the Denmark national team’s squad as well, when they participate in the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

In fact, it looks like some Celtic players believe that Denmark have a good chance of going on and winning the World Cup. As reported by the Daily Record, O’Riley told Bold:

"“I have also spoken to some friends from Celtic and they think that Denmark has some of the best chances to win the World Cup. If those things are said, then it is very exciting to be Dane.”"

O’Riley reveals surprising claim made by some Celtic teammates

On the surface of it, that seems like a surprising claim, but in reality, Denmark do have a very solid team.

They are ranked 10th in the FIFA Rankings at this point of time, ahead of nations like Germany, Netherlands, Uruguay, Croatia and more. Denmark was also able to make the semi-finals of the UEFA EURO 2020.

Thus, they are a solid team to be very honest and could end up proving to be one of the surprise performers at the World Cup, similar to what Croatia were in 2018, when they reached the final against all odds.

The bigger question is if O’Riley will be able to make the Danish squad or not. If he continues to perform like he has for Celtic in recent times, there is no reason to not take him to Qatar.
