Ange Postecoglou has done a remarkable job ever since arriving at Celtic last summer. He took a team that had finished 25 points behind the Rangers in the previous season, to a Premiership triumph, under the most difficult of circumstances. This time around, after just six league games, they are already five points ahead. The Hoops won the Scottish League Cup as well in the 2021/22 campaign.

Thus, while Postecoglou might have been a relative unknown in European football back when he arrived at Celtic, the situation is very different now. And it should come as no surprise that he is being linked with a move away from Parkhead already.

Graham Potter left Brighton & Hove Albion recently to join Chelsea and the name of Postecoglou has been floated around as being one of the favourites to take the Seagulls’ vacant managerial seat.

Chris Sutton cannot see it happening though. The Celtic hero wrote in his column in the Daily Record regarding the matter:

"When the day comes for Postecoglou to leave and if it is to England, it’ll be to one of the bigger clubs, a top-six club. If it’s not there, I don’t think he’ll be going anywhere. It’s understandable some Celtic fans may be concerned about the situation given their experience with Brendan Rodgers when he walked out of the door. However, I believe the circumstances around that are quite different. Rodgers had been at Celtic for over two-and- a-half years when he moved to Leicester and, from the outside, it appeared the relationship between boss and hierarchy was not as sweet as it was in the beginning. You got the feeling he had taken the club as far as he could.Timing is everything and Postecoglou will know the reaction to Rodgers. Plus, just over a year into the job, he still has things to achieve, domestically and in Europe. Earlier in the season, when asked about squad rotation and keeping players who were on the bench happy, Postecoglou was crystal clear with his response. He said: “They are at Celtic Football Club. If that is not happiness for them, I don’t know what is.” Such a sentiment tells you what he thinks about the size and stature of Celtic. And tells me that he isn’t going anywhere soon. And certainly not to Brighton."

Thus it feels like when Postecoglou does eventually end up leaving Celtic one day, it would be for one of the top six clubs in England, otherwise not.

Postecoglou might not have been at Celtic for a long time but he has already been successful in creating a special bond with the fans and is a cult figure amongst the support.

Thus, he is expected to be aware of the reaction that the fans had to Brendan Rodgers leaving the club in the middle of the season in order to join Leicester City a few years back. So, would Postecoglou be open to putting his Celtic legacy in danger by doing the same?

Also, one has to feel that he would not want to give up the chance to manage in the Champions League.
