When Ange Postecoglou first arrived at Celtic, there was not a lot of excitement around the move. Eddie Howe had been the club’s first choice and had been chased for months, but decided to turn down the chance to arrive at Glasgow. Thus, many fans viewed the move for the former Australian national team manager as desperation on the part of the Hoops. He had never managed a top flight club in European football before.

It’s funny how quickly things change in football. Just a little over a year on, Postecoglou has led Celtic to a Premiership and League Cup double, and saw his side take on Real Madrid in the Champions League a few days back. He is a cult favourite amongst the fans as well and has brought the support together like very few other people could have.

And Postecoglou has done all this, while Celtic have played a very attractive style of football. So, it is safe to say that European teams have taken notice.

Postecoglou was recently linked with a move to Brighton & Hove Albion. Although it feels unlikely that that will happen, it is not going to be the last time that he is rumoured with a potential Celtic exit this season.

It is more than likely that every time a Premier League manager gets sacked this season, the name of Postecoglou will do the rounds of the media as a potential replacement.

Celtic fans, who have seen Brendan Rodgers leave the club in the middle of the season in order to join Leicester City, will understandably be worried about the rumours.

Thus, this is something that they need to get used to over the course of the season. In many ways, this is the price that they pay for the success that Postecoglou has enjoyed since arriving at Parkhead.

At the same time though, it does feel like it would take an incredible offer from one of the biggest teams in England, for Postecoglou to consider giving up the feeling of managing in front of 60,000 Celtic fans every week.
