Celtic were scheduled to face Livingston this weekend, but that has been postponed, along with every other game in Scotland, as a mark of respect following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. But while the status of the domestic games have been made clear already, the same is not the case when it comes to the club’s European affairs.

In midweek, Celtic are supposed to travel to Warsaw to take on Shakhtar Donetsk, in their second game of the Champions League group stage. The first one was memorable to say the least, as the Hoops managed to go toe-to-toe with Real Madrid at Parkhead in the first half and should have actually been ahead by a goal or two. The European champions turned the game around after the break with a 3-0 victory.

So, while Celtic might have lost against Real Madrid, there was a lot to be positive about the performance on the night and it has raised hopes that the club could make it into the knockout phases of the competition.

Regarding the status of their upcoming Champions League game, the Rangers’ statement could be of interest to the Celtic fans.

A statement released on Rangers’ official website read:

"We can confirm that discussions are taking place between UEFA, Police Scotland and Rangers regarding our scheduled UEFA Champions League fixture v Napoli on Tuesday, 13th September. As present, the game is scheduled to take place at the scheduled date and time."

Thus, it looks like that Champions League fixtures have not been postponed for the time being and are scheduled to go ahead as planned, unless the situation changes.

Another thing that must be pointed out is that the Rangers are set to play at Ibrox, against Napoli. On the other hand, Celtic will be traveling to Poland in order to take on Shakhtar Donetsk. Thus, the difference in location could end up playing a factor in the status of those two games as well.

Let’s see if this midweek’s Champions League games go ahead as planned or not.
