Celtic made a solid return to the Champions League in the past midweek, as they put in a good performance against European champions, Real Madrid, at Parkhead and went toe-to-toe with Carlo Ancelotti’s side for the majority of the game. The 3-0 scoreline might suggest a one-sided affair but it was anything but that. If the Hoops had taken their chances, they could have easily scored two or three of their own against Los Blancos.

Thus, while the game might have ended in defeat, it has raised hopes that Celtic could potentially make it to the knockout phases of the competition, by getting the better of RB Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk.

The status of the game against Shakhtar Donetsk game is unclear at the moment though, following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic have hinted that their game in Poland against the Ukrainian giants could go ahead as they continue to sell tickets for it. The club’s official tickets’ page confirmed on Friday that “a limited number of tickets for the away match v Shakhtar Donetsk” had been placed on sale to season ticket holders.

Celtic drop possible hint that the game against Shakhtar Donetsk could go ahead as planned

The fact that the game is set to be played in Poland could end up playing a factor. The situation could have been very different if it was to be played in Scotland.

Both Celtic and Shakhtar Donetsk will have reasons to come into this game riding on a lot of confidence.

Celtic might have lost against Real Madrid but they must have taken a lot of positives from their performance on the night, which showed that they could hang with the best in Europe.

On the other hand, Shakhtar Donetsk got a surprise 4-1 win against RB Leipzig and have their own reasons to believe that they can beat Celtic.
