It has already been a few days since the game between Celtic and Real Madrid, but it still seems to be the talk of the town. The Hoops certainly held their own for most of the game against the European champions and should have been a goal or two ahead. But ultimately, Los Blancos’ took control in the second half and ended up winning by a 3-0 scoreline. Vinicius Junior, Luka Modric and Eden Hazard were the scorers.

There was a feeling of disappointment coming out of the game to be honest. The match was much closer than the 3-0 scoreline suggests. While Real Madrid were deserving winners considering their second half display, Celtic should have found the back of the net themselves and made it tighter.

Another big talking point though was the atmosphere at Celtic Park, which was brilliant, as most people would have expected.

Rio Ferdinand, who played at Celtic Park himself, believes that it was always going to be an uphill task for the Scottish champions but even Real Madrid players would have been left impressed by the atmosphere on the night. As reported by Glasgow Live, the Manchester United legend told BT Sport:

"“Real Madrid have the experience, the stardust and quality.“They understand how to win on the road. So it was always going to be a uphill task for Celtic.“But for those fans up there – having played up there myself in Champions League football. I actually got beat on one occasion – it is an unbelievable place to go and play football.“I am sure any of the Real Madrid players who haven’t played there before would have left there thinking ‘this isn’t a bad atmosphere to play in’.”"

It is nothing new for the Celtic Park atmosphere to be praised, but the Hoops also need to take advantage of it moving forward.

They will need to win the games at home against RB Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League, if they are to have any hope of making it out of the group.

Judging by their performance against Real Madrid, it is safe to say that Celtic are good enough to come second in this group. Now the important thing is that they don’t let their performance levels drop and start taking their chances in front of goal.
