Celtic Predicted XI vs Real Madrid: Changes after Derby demolition?
Defence, Midfield and Attack
Josip Juranovic
There should not be any doubt regarding Celtic’s full-back positions. As such, Juranovic will fill the right-back spot. He will potentially be up against Vinicius Junior, who has been electric for Real Madrid in recent times.
Cameron Carter-Vickers
Carter-Vickers will start the game, unless something very unexpected happens. Owing to his praiseworthy defensive displays, Celtic have conceded just one goal in the new campaign thus far.
Moritz Jenz
In the absence of Carl Starfelt, who got injured vs Rangers, Jenz is expected to get the nod. The German will have to keep tabs on Karim Benzema, touted as the favourite to win the Ballon d’Or this year. Surely, it would not be an easy night for the Celtic defensive duo.
Greg Taylor
On the left, Taylor will have a lot of responsibilities on his shoulders. From providing the width in the attacking half to keeping the defensive line narrow and intact in the defensive part, Taylor has a difficult task on his hand.
Callum McGregor
Celtic would need a captain-esque performance from McGregor if they were to salvage something positive out of the opening matchday. The Scot will have to lead his team by performance, and he is certainly well capable of doing that.
Reo Hatate
Another player who has produced some inspiring performances of late, Hatate should occupy a midfield spot for the home side.
Matt O’Riley
Several big clubs were reportedly interested in O’Riley in the summer transfer window, showing that he has caught some eyes with his attributes. Could he manage to earn the status of a big game player? He has everything to prove his worth against Los Blancos.
Daizen Maeda
Here is the big surprise! After his heroics in the Glasgow Derby, many would back Liel Abada for a starting place in the game against Real Madrid. But considering Maeda’s work rate, he could be a blessing for the defensive part of the game, and Postecoglou could take a much more pragmatic approach and choose to go with him.
Kyogo Furuhashi
There are concerns over Furuhashi’s fitness level. The 27-year-old has already scored six goals from six Premiership appearances this term. Postecoglou will not drop him unless the injury has a part to play and the Japanese star has trained since then. Giorgos Giakoumakis could be a viable replacement.
Jota
Since joining the club, the Portuguese magician has always responded to the club’s urgency. The game against Real Madrid will perhaps be one of the biggest tests for the forward to prove his ability to perform at the very top level. As things stand, he is expected to be the name on the team sheet on Tuesday night.
