When Celtic and Real Madrid take to the Parkhead pitch this midweek for the UEFA Champions League opener, there will be no question about which side has the stronger squad. Los Blancos have had a disappointing summer transfer window by their standards and even that has included a €100 million transfer of Aurelien Tchouameni and the signing of one of the best defenders in the world in Antonio Rudiger.

Celtic simply cannot keep up with that, that is just a fact. But football matches are not won on paper, and when the Hoops take on Carlo Ancelotti’s side, they definitely have the ability to take something out of the game.

Celtic have won all their games this season till now and are coming off of a 4-0 Glasgow Derby win over the Rangers. Real Madrid have been in impressive form themselves, winning all four La Liga games. Thus, at least one team’s perfection will come to an end at Parkhead.

Real Madrid’s Rodrygo seems to be very confident about the strength of their squad though, no matter which team they end up picking. As reported by the Scottish Daily Express, he said:

"“We are all very excited about starting our defence of the trophy in Glasgow. I believe we have a really strong squad this season. It’s a busy period with two games in a week, but we love that. It’s always better to be playing games. Whatever team we pick on Tuesday it won’t matter because we are so strong in all positions across the pitch.”"

Celtic will be confident in their own squad depth as well, having recruited very smartly this summer.

On top of everything else, one thing we know for sure is that they will not move away from their philosophy of intense and attacking football, which has gotten them this far under the management of Ange Postecoglou.

On the other hand, Real Madrid have looked a bit weak defensively. While they have big names at the back, they have conceded in every game this season till now and appear to suffer from lapses of concentration. If the likes of Kyogo, Jota, Liel Abada, Giorgos Giakoumakis and others can capitalise on those moments, it could be game on at Parkhead.
