Rangers legend’s pre-Derby comments go viral after 4-0 Celtic win
Celtic got the better of the Rangers by quite some distance as they beat Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side 4-0. Liel Abada scored a double while Jota and David Turnbull found the back of the net once each, to help the Hoops go five points clear at the top of the Premiership table after just six league games this season.
It is safe to say that most people would not have expected this game to be so one-sided. While Celtic did win both home and away against the Rangers last season, Van Bronckhorst’s side did manage a win in the Scottish Cup semi-final and were arguably the better team in the 1-1 draw in the last Glasgow Derby of the campaign.
This led to a lot of the Rangers supporters thinking that Van Bronckhorst had already figured a way to get the better of the Scottish champions.
Rangers legend, Barry Ferguson, even wrote in this column in the Daily Record:
"For me, the key will be the first 10 to 15 minutes because what happens in those early exchanges could very well set the tone for the entire match. But no one will know that better than Gio and there were signs towards the end of last season that he might have got Ange Postecoglou sussed. Put it this way, the 1-1 draw at their place at the end of the season should have been a Rangers win and that tells me that the manager knows exactly how to combat Celtic’s all out attacking style."
Ferguson further went on to add that Van Bronckhorst had more plans than Ange Postecoglou:
"While Big Ange has only one way of playing, Gio has shown he can roll out plans A,B,C and D. Sometimes in the course of the same 90 minutes!"
Rangers legend’s comments have gone viral after Celtic beat Van Bronckhorst’s side 4-0 in the first Glasgow Derby of the season
It is safe to say that the game between Celtic and the Rangers was not even close on this occasion and no one can argue that Van Bronckhorst’s side should have taken anything out of Parkhead on the day.
In fact, it felt like that Celtic did take their foot off the gas a bit in the second half or otherwise, the scoreline could have ended up even scarier for the Rangers fans.
A lot of people have accused Postecoglou of having just one game plan through the course of his time at Celtic. But if the manager does have only one plan, it is a pretty good one, because it continues to get the job done for the Hoops.
