Most people expected a tight game between Celtic and the Rangers but reality proved to be quite different. The Hoops blew Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side off the Parkhead pitch in what turned out to be a 4-0 win for them. Liel Abada was on the double, while Jota and David Turnbull got their names on the scoresheet as well.
The win sends Celtic five points clear at the top and while we are still in the very early phases of the season, the Rangers already have a mountain to climb.
Celtic have their worries coming out of the game as well though. Kyogo picked up an injury very early in the game and then Carl Starfelt got injured in the second half. While the Hoops’ incredible squad depth meant that they did not feel their absence, Ange Postecoglou will surely want to have two of his starters back in the mix as soon as possible.
Kyogo has suffered a shoulder injury while Starfelt picked up a knee problem. As reported by Glasgow Live, Postecoglou said to Sportsound:
"“We’ll see how it is. It was a shoulder injury [for Kyogo]. Carl had a niggle in his knee. It’s a bit of blow because Kyogo has been in brilliant form so far this season. We’ll assess them after this.”"
Celtic injury update on Kyogo and Starfelt after beating Rangers 4-0
Kyogo had been in stunning form this season and this injury comes as a major blow, especially before the game against Real Madrid.
Fitness has been Kyogo’s only problem since arriving at Celtic, and one can only hope that he is not out for any considerable length of time. The fact that he was involved in the post-match celebrations is cause for optimism.
On the other hand, the injury is not good news for Starfelt either. He had missed the entirety of pre-season through a different injury and at the moment, has Moritz Jenz breathing down his neck for the starting spot.
Let’s see how things go from here and how long it takes for the duo to return to action.
