Celtic midfielder quietly completes exit on deadline day
Celtic’s record in signing players over the past few transfer windows has been fantastic to say the least. Even this summer, they have made a few very interesting moves and it remains to be seen whether the new arrivals can help take the club to the next level, with the Scottish crown to defend and Champions League group stage football to look forward to as well.
But then, their recent transfer successes do not mean that there have not been moves which have not worked out, because there certain been quite a few of those as well.
Liam Shaw appears to be one of them. The club had signed the midfielder, who can also play as a centre-back, from Sheffield Wednesday last summer and many even compared him to Kristoffer Ajer. It is safe to say that things have gone quite as smoothly.
Shaw barely featured last season and was eventually sent out on loan to Motherwell. And this time around, he has left Celtic on a temporary basis once again.
Celtic midfielder quietly completes loan exit on deadline day
As tweeted out by Celtic, Shaw has moved to English League One side Morecambe FC on a season-long loan.
Shaw has already played quite a bit of English Championship football from his time at Sheffield Wednesday and as a result, a move back to England might do him well and help with his development.
Chances of him getting regular minutes were slim at best, if he had decided to stay on at Celtic. The Hoops have a very deep midfield at this point of time, having brought in Aaron Mooy, Sead Haksabanovic and Oliver Abildgaard over the summer. Thus, Shaw moving to a club like Morecambe might be the best step for his career as he needs to be playing first-team football at this stage.
