Celtic will make the grandest return to the Champions League possible by welcoming 14-time winners and defending champions, Real Madrid, to Parkhead. On one hand, this will be their first game in Europe’s elite competition after several years. On the other hand, one does not need to talk about the glamour of a game involving the legendary Los Blancos. So, expect an incredible atmosphere on the night.

Celtic might have been brilliant in domestic competitions last season under the management of Ange Postecoglou, but their form in Europe did leave a lot to be desired and that is one aspect that the manager must be very keen to improve upon.

Of course, they have the toughest test possible to kick start the campaign, but the Hoops can give even the biggest of teams problems on their day, especially with the Parkhead crowd behind them.

Vinicius Jr of Real Madrid, who scored the Champions League-winning goal for the club against Liverpool last season, seems to be aware of the atmosphere that might welcome them to Glasgow. As reported by the Daily Record, the Brazilian superstar said:

"“Of course the aim as always for this club is to win the Champions League – but for now we are fully focused on the group stage. Celtic have a big tradition and we know their fans will create a big atmosphere.”"

It remains to be seen how Celtic will perform when the European champions roll up at Parkhead. This is a great opportunity for Postecoglou to have a look at his side and assess where they are truly at, when compared to the best teams on the planet.

The manager’s aim is to make sure that Celtic are competing in the Champions League on a consistent basis and this does not turn out to be a one-off appearance for them.

But before Celtic can turn their attention towards Real Madrid, they have an equally important game this weekend against the Rangers, in what will be the first Glasgow Derby of the season.
