Celtic seem to be having a busy deadline day for sure. There’s just something about the last day of the transfer window. Clubs have months to get deals over the line and sign players, and yet, this is always the busiest period. It is no different for the Hoops either, as they seem to be on the verge of signing Oliver Abildgaard.
If the move does go through, which it is expected to, then Abildgaard will become the third player to leave Rubin Kazan for Celtic in the past year. Carl Starfelt joined the club last summer while Sead Haksabanovic just arrived a week ago.
On the other hand, Celtic seem to keeping themselves busy in terms of outgoings as well. As reported by Football Scotland, Mikey Johnston is on the verge of a loan move to Vitoria Guimaraes. The winger is currently en route to Portugal as he gets set to finalise his switch to the Primeira Liga.
Johnston has struggled with form and fitness for the past several years and it is believed that Ange Postecoglou is keen for him to go out on loan and play regular football somewhere in order to continue his development.
Celtic winger is on the verge of joining Portuguese club on loan
Johnston was the most highly rated player at Celtic while coming through the youth ranks and many believed that he could develop into a 20-goal-a-season winger. Unfortunately, after a bright start to his senior career, the wheels have fallen off due to a series of injuries over the past several years.
At the moment, he seems to be even lacking in confidence on the pitch and struggling to affect games like he used to even when he was first breaking through into the senior team as a teenager.
Vitoria Guimaraes might be a very good place for Johnston to go to. They are currently mid-table in the Portuguese league and one would expect the winger to get playing time for them.
It can be a very good experience for him and help him grow as a player. One can only hope though that Johnston is able to remain injury free.
