Celtic should be very happy with the job that they have done in the 2022 summer transfer window. It was considered as one of the most significant in the club’s recent history, and the Hoops have not disappointed. In terms of footballing aspects, the team has undergone moderate yet meaningful alterations over the last few months, as they aim to defend the Scottish crown and impress in the Champions League.
Incredibly influential while on loan at Celtic last season, Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Daizen Maeda have now signed permanent deals with the Scottish champions. But just retaining the services of the trio was not sufficient.
The Scottish giants have brought in Alexandro Bernabei and Sead Haksabanovic by shelling out transfer fees, while the free transfers of Aaron Mooy and Benjamin Siegrist have further strengthened the squad. Moritz Jenz has been brought on loan with an option to buy included in the deal.
On the other hand, there have been exits of note as well. It is just recently that Albian Ajeti left on a season-long loan, and there could be more to follow.
Four more Celtic players could leave before the end of the summer transfer window
As reported by Football Scotland, Mikey Johnston is also weighing up his options after being told he will be sent out on loan for the season. Out-of-favour midfielders Liam Shaw, Scott Robertson and James McCarthy could also depart.
Now, it remains to be seen how many of these, if any, end up happening before the transfer window slams shut. On the other hand, rumours suggest that Celtic could be looking to make additions as well.
No matter how things end though, one would have to consider this summer transfer window as a success for Celtic, at least on paper. Now, it remains to be seen if they are able to deliver on the pitch.
