Celtic’s transfer business for the summer might not be over yet, despite the club bringing in several fresh faces already while also turning the loan deals of Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Daizen Maeda permanent. One deal that they had failed to pull off though, is bringing St Mirren wonderkid, Dylan Reid, to Parkhead.
Reid is a defensive midfielder and is just 17 years of age, who has already made a few senior appearances for St Mirren. Not only is he wanted by Celtic as well as the Rangers, but by teams down south as well.
Celtic are believed to have had a £125,000 transfer bid accepted for him earlier, but could not convince Reid to join the club, as he decided to stay on at St Mirren instead. Now though, it looks like the Hoops have revived their interest in the youngster, with just days left in the summer transfer window.
But Celtic could end up facing a couple of problems this time around. The first is that the fee could be a sticking point as the situation has changed since the last time. And the second is that there is not much time left to register players for the Champions League youth fixtures. Mark Hendry tweeted:
Celtic suffer double blow in race to sign St Mirren midfielder
It remains to be seen if Celtic are able to get a deal done for Reid or not. They could not the first time around.
Also, is he the one last signing that has been hinted at in recent weeks, because it feels unlikely that he will be a feature in the first-team picture even if he did arrive this summer.
Let’s see how things turn out over the coming weeks and months but the situation is getting interesting. And we won’t have to wait long to find out, as the transfer window slams shut in a few days.
