A summary of all the squad values for this season’s Champions League naturally places Celtic well behind many big spending teams around Europe. That is expected as it is no surprise that Scottish clubs cannot compete financially with teams belonging to the big five leagues. Just go ahead and have a look at Nottingham Forest’s summer transfer window as proof.
But shockingly, the Celtic squad is valued significantly lower than that of the Rangers, despite having won the Premiership and League Cup double last season.
The Celtic squad has a total estimated value of €99 million, and left far behind by the majority of other teams in the competition. Manchester City lead the way at €1.01 billion followed by PSG at €900 million. Astonishing sums, especially when you recognise that neither of those two teams have won the trophy despite spending fortunes chasing that dream. Interestingly though, the Rangers’ squad is valued at €130 million, a €31 million gap with their Glasgow rivals.
Transfermarkt tweeted out the values of every team in the Champions League this season:

Celtic squad valued significantly lower than that of Rangers
While the Rangers did make a run at the Europa League final last season, which must have increased the value of their squad, it is still hard to imagine that that would be 30% higher than that of the team who beat them to the league title just a few months back.
Now, Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees, but even then, it does give an idea about how much a player is valued upon form and performances.
There are a number of valuations of the players, which make little to no sense. For example, Alfredo Morelos is valued at almost twice as much as Kyogo. Ianis Hagi is valued almost as much as Jota and Tom Lawrence more than twice as much as Matt O’Riley.
