Celtic will be making a grand return to the UEFA Champions League with a game at Parkhead against the defending European champions and 14-time holders of the cup with the big ears, Real Madrid. It truly does not get bigger than this to be honest and one can only imagine the atmosphere at the stadium when the Spanish giants come visiting. It is truly going to be special.

At the same time though, facing a team of that quality is always a bit of a worry as well, because if you are not careful, they can tear you apart. We saw Bayer Leverkusen completely destroy Celtic last season and to be honest, Real Madrid are quite a few levels above them.

At the same time, Celtic have gotten much better since then as well and Ange Postecoglou’s side must be hoping to put up a challenge against Real Madrid for sure, whatever the result of the game.

One of the most important factors on the day can turn out to be the home crowd but Toni Kroos seems to be pretty confident in Real Madrid’s ability to play away from home. As reported by the Daily Record, the German international said:

"“We have now won three La Liga games away from home and the Super Cup too and it shows we are comfortable when we are not in Madrid too.“When you play away from home, there are moments you will have to suffer and the home side pressurise you. But we are very good at realising when the opposition begins to tire and targeting that. I think you could see Espanyol were tiring and we dominated towards the end. It’s very important to start the season well both in the league and in Europe.“Karim Benzema did it again for us. He doesn’t care about winning individual prizes, all he cares about is helping the team and he’s done it again here.”"

Kroos sends worrying message to Celtic ahead of Champions League clash

Nobody is expecting the game against Real Madrid to be easy. They have players like Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, Vini Jr and Kroos himself just to name a few.

But Celtic have a few players as well, who can make a difference. Now is the big test for them though, to show that they are capable of producing the goods against the very best in the world.

Celtic prepared for the game in style with a 9-0 win over Dundee United, although there are still  a couple of games before they meet Real Madrid.
