Chelsea decision ends any chance of Celtic transfer
Celtic have done a wonderful job of strengthening their squad this summer. Not only have they kept their core together by signing Jota, Daizen Maeda and Cameron Carter-Vickers on permanent deals, but they have also added fresh faces in Aaron Mooy, Alexandro Bernabei, Benjamin Siegrist, Sead Haksabanovic and Moritz Jenz, on loan from Ligue 1 side Lorient.
Celtic’s transfer business for the summer might not be over though as hints have been dropped that the Hoops could be looking for one more addition, even though that could end up depending on outgoings as well. The likes of Albian Ajeti and James McCarthy could still be on their way out.
On the other hand, one player that Celtic have been linked with heavily this summer is Ross Barkley, with the English midfielder struggling for playing time. Rumours of a potential loan deal have been floated.
But now, there does not seem to be any chance of that happening. As reported by Chelsea’s official website, Barkley has left the club by mutual consent and becomes a free agent.

It is safe to say that the entire idea of Celtic making a move for Barkley depended upon the fact that it would be a loan move and Chelsea would be open to paying the majority of his wages.
Now that he is a free agent, there does not seem to be any hope left that Celtic could sign Barkley, as they would have to compete with Premier League clubs for his signature.
Barkley was considered as the next big thing in English football while breaking out at Everton and while he has never managed to fulfil his potential, there are still many clubs who would happily sign him as a free agent.
Thus, it is time to say goodbye to the Barkley to Celtic rumours for good.
