Steven Gerrard has struggled to get a tune out of Aston Villa and if things don’t improve quickly, he could be in danger of being shown the exit door by the Birmingham club. On the other hand, he is surprisingly joined by an old Celtic rival, in the form of Brendan Rodgers, whose Leicester City side find themselves in the relegation zone right now.

Both managers left their Glasgow teams mid-way through a season, jumping to the Premier League. Right now though both are struggling, as their respective club’s fans seem to be losing patience. Gerrard in particular has a lot to prove, with his managerial ability under serious question.

Gerrard did win the league title in Scotland, but that was the only trophy he won in three and a half years with the Rangers. That is not an impressive stat.

As of the time of writing, Aston Villa are in 15th place in the Premier League table after 3 games, with just 3 points. What is more, they have not faced the toughest competition either, losing to Crystal Palace and a Bournemouth side that has since lost three straight and shipped 16 unanswered goals. Their win came against Everton. At least, Leicester City have come up against top class opposition like Chelsea and Arsenal, and a solid Brentford as well.

Gerrard could beat old Celtic rival to the sack this season

Gerrard might have made a decent start, but things have faded away badly since then. As tweeted out by Villa Analytics:

"Every Aston Villa manager to lose more than 50% of their games in charge:57.1% Tim Sherwood56.5% Remi Garde52.4% STEVEN GERRARDShould we lose to West Ham, Arsenal, and Man City, Gerrard will officially be the worst manager in our 148-year history."

Aston Villa fans do not seem to be content either and have let it be known on Twitter with #gerrardout trending:

With only three matches played it is early in the season to be considering replacing managers, but Aston Villa’s record has been poor for a while now, and if things don’t improve, one can see Gerrard being shown the exit door in the near future.

Their next game is against West Ham United, who are winless and bottom of the table. Thus, the result on the day could play a huge part in Gerrard’s future at the club.
