Celtic could look to strengthen their squad further as they gear up for what appears to be a tough yet interesting group with Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk, upon their return to the UEFA Champions League. Faced with the prospect of playing in Europe’s elite competition, the Hoops have done a fantastic job in the summer transfer window, bringing in reinforcements all over the pitch.
In the midfield, Aaron Mooy has joined the club as a free agent, while Sead Haksabanovic has been brought in from Rubin Kazan for a transfer fee believed to be around €2 million. On the other hand, Nir Bitton and Tom Rogic had left at the end of last season.
Rumours suggest though that Celtic could have their eyes on potentially making one more addition to the midfield department this summer, even though it seems pretty stacked at the moment.
It remains to be seen if they are successful in doing that and who it turns out to be. One player Celtic have been linked with on-and-off for a while though is Edouard Michut. The 19-year-old PSG youngster is believed to be rated at a transfer fee around €5 million though, which could be a problem. English Championship club, Sunderland, seem to have had a bid turned down already.
Sunderland’s bid for Celtic target rejected by PSG
As tweeted by Fabrizio Romano, Paris Saint-Germain have rejected new proposal from Sunderland for Michut. The English club were offering a €3 million fixed fee plus add-ons and 30% sell-on clause also included.
Michut has already made some appearances for a star-studded PSG first-team so far. However, chances of him getting regular minutes anytime soon are slim to none, so he could end up moving away this summer.
It will be interesting to see though whether Celtic are still interested in the attacking midfielder, after bringing in Haksabanovic. It does feel unlikely.
