Celtic have been very active in this summer transfer window, strengthening all over the pitch, as they aim to defend the Scottish crown and return to the Champions League, where they will face Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk. Thus, it is safe to say that these are exciting times for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
One of their strongest position on the pitch right now is defence. The club have a wealth of options at both centre-back and in the full-back positions. Moritz Jenz has been brought in on loan from Lorient but if he continues to play like this, Celtic will have to consider triggering the option to buy in his deal. On the other hand, the club also brought in Alexandro Bernabei from Lanus in a transfer deal believed to be around £3.75, making him the Hoops’ first ever Argentine player.
One other Celtic defender is shining at the moment though, but he is currently out on loan at Aberdeen.
Liam Scales was signed from Shamrock Rovers last summer but did not really get a chance to establish himself in the Celtic starting XI. He has gotten that chance at Aberdeen and taken it with both hands, and it looks like the Dons might already be considering an attempt to sign him on a permanent basis.
Rival manager hints at permanent move for Celtic loanee
As reported by Aberdeen Live, Jim Goodwin said about Scales:
"“There’s nothing to suggest that we won’t enter into conversation with Celtic again in January to see if we can make it more of a permanent fixture but for the time being it’s a loan.“He’s a fantastic player, he’s doing great, he’s very consistent in his performances which is all you want. For the time being he is very much our player.”"
The fact that we are still in August and there are already talks about potentially making an attempt to sign Scales on a permanent basis just goes onto show how well he is doing on loan at Aberdeen.
Celtic are stacked all across their defence and thus, one has to wonder, whether they would consider letting Scales leave on a permanent basis, if Aberdeen came in with a reasonable offer.
