Christopher Jullien joined Celtic in the summer of 2019 in a £7 million transfer deal, which made him the second most expensive signing in the history of the club, behind only Odsonne Edouard. He seemed to justify that fee in his first season at Parkhead as well, establishing himself as the starting centre-back and scoring the winning goal against the Rangers in the Scottish League Cup final.

Things have gone south for Jullien since that campaign though. He struggled for fitness early on in the 2020/21 campaign and then suffered a serious injury at the end of 2020, which kept him out for more than a year.

He has been nowhere near the first-team picture since returning earlier this year either, making only one appearance in Ange Postecoglou’s side and that too as a substitute. Thus, a move away from Celtic might be the best step for all parties involved. And it looks like we are going to get that.

As reported by L’Equipe (via 67 Hail Hail), Jullien is on the verge of an exit having come through a medical at Montpellier without any issues. The defender is now set to sign a three-year deal, with the Ligue 1 side paying Celtic in the region of €1 million.

Celtic ready to let Jullien go for very low transfer fee

It is safe to say that that is a very low fee when you consider that Celtic had to shell out in the region of £7 million to sign the Frenchman from Toulouse just three years back.

At the same time though, it does not feel like Celtic will be able to get a much higher fee out of his departure this summer.

Jullien has a long history of injuries at Parkhead and has barely played any football over the past two years, becoming the fifth choice centre-back in Postecoglou’s squad.
