Celtic were handed a massive boost in their title race this weekend, as they took a two-point lead over the Rangers. The Hoops managed to get a 2-0 win vs Hearts, while the Ibrox club could only manage a 2-2 draw against Hibernian, leaving them trailing their Glasgow rivals.
Of course, it is too early on in the season to mean much, but every point counts, when the title race is expected to be as tight as this season’s. So while the league will not be won in August, it is never too early to start laying down the foundations of it anyway.
Former Rangers star, Kris Boyd, made a few headlines recently. He is accused of wearing blue-tinted glasses by fans of Scottish football a lot of the time, and he did end up picking Alfredo Morelos as the best in the country right now, ahead of Jota, who has made a tremendous start to the campaign.
Well, it did not take too long for things to go horribly wrong in this regard. Morelos ended up picking a red card against Hibernian, which might very well have cost the Rangers a couple of points this weekend. It was once again, a very avoidable one and not the first of its kind that the Colombian has picked up in his time at Ibrox.
Boyd’s Celtic vs Rangers star debate went horribly wrong this weekend
Morelos has not had a great start to the season to say the least and he has not been scoring goals as consistently for a few years now.
On the other hand, Jota has been nothing short of sensational. He already has a couple of wondergoals to his name, while also providing three assists in the game against Ross County, which Celtic won 3-1. And one could argue that he has not even played in his best position, left-wing, most of the time.
Thus, at this moment of time, it is hard for anyone to pick Morelos ahead of Jota, which Boyd did. It did not take long for it to go wrong though.
