Celtic seem to be following the ‘we never stop’ mantra in this transfer window. Despite already signing Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Daizen Maeda, Aaron Mooy, Benjamin Siegrist and Alexandro Bernabei permanently, and Moritz Jenz on loan from Ligue 1 side Lorient, the Hoops appear to be on the verge of strengthening their squad further.

Celtic had been linked with a move for Sead Haksabanovic earlier in the summer but it failed to materialise back then. But it looks like they have gone back in for the Montenegro international star and gotten their man this time around.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Celtic were last night closing in on a deal for Haksabanovic. The Rubin Kazan star could undergo a medical in London within 24 hours.

Rubin Kazan were believed to have shelled out a transfer fee around £6 million to sign him from IFK Norrkoping last summer. But following an underwhelming season from Haksabanovic and the club’s relegation from the Russian top flight, it appears that he will be moving to Celtic in a cut-price deal.

Why the international star might be a good signing for Celtic

Haksabanovic might have struggled at Rubin Kazan, but before that, he had an exceptional spell at IFK Norrkoping.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Haksabanovic scored 21 goals and provided 25 assists in 76 appearances for IFK Norrkoping across all competitions.

Thus, on top of his game, he is a very good player. Also, one has to remember the fact that Rubin Kazan got relegated last season, so they were not the strongest of sides either. Haksabanovic did spend time out on loan at Djurgardens IF.

Yes, one might question the need to sign someone who primarily plays as a left winger, when Celtic already have Jota and Daizen Maeda. But there are many who believe that Haksabanovic plays better through the middle. Thus, he could potentially be a replacement for Tom Rogic while also providing cover on the wings.

Celtic have shown a knack for picking out the right players since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager and someone like Haksabanovic could actually prove to be a smart addition.
