Despite having enjoyed an excellent transfer window so far, Celtic appear to be keen on further reinforcing their ranks. It looks like the club are closing in on the signing of Sead Haksabanovic from Rubin Kazan. And could they end up moving for a striker as well, in order to provide competition to Kyogo and Giorgos Giakoumakis up top?
The name of Ferencvaros star, Ryan Mmaee, has been linked with Celtic on several occasions this summer. The Premiership champions are believed to have been keeping tabs on the Moroccan international for some time now.
The 24-year-old has also been linked with a move to AS Saint-Etienne, but it is believed that moving to the French Ligue 2 side is not something that interests Mmaee.
Amidst all this, there might be a positive update for Celtic, in case they are indeed looking to add to their ranks up front this summer by bringing in Mmaee. As reported by Daily Record, while speaking about interest in the club’s players, Ferencvaros sporting director Tamas Hajnal said:
"“We have to understand that interest in our players has increased in recent years and there may be some departures before the transfer window shuts. I won’t name names, but there are offers on the table for our players.“There are rumours about our players that have been reported that have a basis in reality and some that do not. At the moment, I prefer not to say which ones are correct.”"
Ferencvaros sporting director makes admission amid Celtic’s links with Mmaee
Since joining Ferencvaros from AEL Limassol in the summer of 2021, Mmaee has been in incredible form. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 19 goals and provided 11 assists for them in 37 appearances last season.
Playing in the Champions League is something that will interest a lot of players and that is something that Celtic can offer them this season.
But on the other hand, any move for Mmaee could end up depending on Albian Ajeti and what he does next.
Ajeti was linked with a Parkhead exit coming into the summer, after he has failed to make a mark at the club since his move from West Ham United in 2020. But, as we creep closer to deadline day, it feels like there is a good possibility that the Swiss striker might end up remaining at the club, despite his slim chances of first-team football.
