Celtic are set to make their return to the Champions League after several years this time around, as a result of winning the Premiership, which guaranteed them a spot in the group stages. The Hoops had struggled to get past the qualifiers for a long time and it is great that they will not have to deal with that headache on this occasion, and can look forward to some special European nights under the lights at Parkhead.

Celtic have produced some huge moments in Europe’s elite competition through the course of their storied history, with the biggest coming in 1967, when they lifted the cup with the big ears.

Celtic’s last great moment in the Champions League came in 2012 when they managed to beat a Barcelona side at Parkhead, that consisted of the likes of Lionel Messi, Xavi, Andres Iniesta and several other legends of the game.

This time around, it looks like Callum McGregor has his sights set on facing Barcelona’s long-time rivals, Real Madrid. As reported by BBC, the Celtic captain said:

"“We’ve played quite a few big teams, but probably the one most fans would like is Real Madrid.“I’ve not played against them yet, but we know anybody we get drawn against will be a top team and a big challenge for us.”"

Real Madrid are the greatest European side in the history of the game and arguably the most famous club in the world as well. If Celtic are drawn with them in the same group, one can expect a special atmosphere at Parkhead when the Spanish giants come visiting.

Real Madrid are just incredible in Europe and managed to win the Champions League against all odds last season, when not many people had given them a chance of doing so.

Whoever Celtic end up facing in the Champions League group stage though, is bound to be a big team. And thus, the Bhoys are set to get six chances to create another special moment in Europe.
