Celtic’s defence looks absolutely brilliant at this point of time. Cameron Carter-Vickers was signed from Tottenham Hotspur in a deal that could rise up to £10 million, following his incredible loan spell. Carl Starfelt was his regular partner in the heart of defence last season. On the other hand, both Stephen Welsh and Moritz Jenz, who is on loan from Lorient, have shown promise and there could be some genuine competition at centre-back this time around.

They are stacked in the full-back areas as well. The fact that Josip Juranovic has been linked with clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United and Atletico Madrid, just goes on to show how good he has been while Greg Taylor has stepped his game up several levels under the management of Ange Postecoglou. In Anthony Ralston and Alexandro Bernabei, they seem to have some excellent cover as well.

While the senior team’s defence seems to have no holes, the club have seen a very promising youth defender exit Parkhead, in order to join Hearts.

As reported by Hearts’ official website, Alexander Walker has joined on a two-year deal. The 16-year-old is a left-sided centre-back and leaves after a long time as part of the Celtic youth system.

Celtic have had a tough time holding onto a number of their youngsters in recent years. The most high profile exit has without doubt been that of Ben Doak, who had made a couple of appearances for the Hoops at just 16 years of age but ended up making the switch to Liverpool. He shined on his youth debut for the Merseyside giants recently.

Celtic have not been able to bring through many players recently, and a major reason behind that is a lot of talent is leaving the club before even making it to the senior level.

European giants like Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and several others have swooped in to sign Celtic youth stars. The Hoops need to find a way to hold onto their most talented players as soon as possible.
