Celtic have done a wonderful job when it comes to bringing in players, ever since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager. This has been one of their biggest strengths, as they seem to have a knack of identifying those who will fit into the system and that played a major part in them winning a double last year, despite all the odds being stacked against the Bhoys following a disaster of a 2020/21 season.

While recruitment has been a strength for Celtic, one of their biggest weakness has been their inability to hold onto some of their most highly-rated youth stars.

Just recently, we saw Ben Doak shine on his debut for Liverpool at the youth level. And now, another highly-regarded Celtic youngster has completed a move down South, by joining Burnley.

Burnley have announced the signing of Frankie Deane on their official website. He had first played for Celtic when he was just six and the central midfielder was believed to have a bright future at the club before departing Parkhead earlier in the summer.

Celtic’s problems with holding onto youth stars continue

It is safe to say that this is starting to become a major issue for Celtic. Many fans wonder why not a lot of players have come through the youth ranks to establish themselves in the first-team picture in recent years.

But that should not come as a surprise considering the best of them depart the club before even making it to the senior team.

A number of top European clubs like Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and others have signed youth players from Celtic in recent years.

One can only hope that this will change as soon as possible, as that will help the Hoops build up a great team without having to shell out major transfer fees.

After many years, Celtic are returning to the Champions League this year and that should help make the club more attractive to the youngsters, as everybody wants to play in Europe’s elite level. Now, the Hoops have to make sure that this does not turn out to be a one-off appearance after which they disappear from the competition for several more years.
