The Ross Barkley to Celtic transfer rumours have picked up pace in recent weeks. Coming into the summer, very few fans would have expected the two to be linked with each other, yet, there have now been some suggestions that the Hoops have submitted a loan offer to bring the Chelsea midfielder to Parkhead.

Barkley is nowhere near the Chelsea starting XI at this point of time and thus, it is very possible that he could end up leaving Stamford Bridge this summer in search of first-team football.

Celtic could actually be a very good landing spot for him. Ange Postecoglou is a manager, who has shown the ability to get the best out of players and perhaps he could help unlock Barkley’s potential.

At the same time though, there is a possibility that the rumours linking Barkley to Celtic could be just that – rumours. As tweeted out by Mark Hendry, nothing has changed in the situation:

Reliable journalist gives update on Barkley to Celtic situation

It is a situation that Celtic fans will be keeping an eye out on over the next couple of weeks for sure.

A large section of the fan base have not seemed to be too thrilled by the idea of a move for Barkley and it is not hard to understand why. He was considered as the next big hope of English football but has come nowhere near fulfilling his potential, and since moving to Chelsea, he has spent most of his time on the fringes of the squad.

At the same time though, when Barkley has been on the pitch, he has done a solid job, even if he has done nothing spectacular. And technically, he is a very good player.

As a result, if Celtic do end up signing him this summer, he can actually turn out to be a pretty solid replacement for Tom Rogic, who left at the end of last season.
