Celtic have always been very smart in negotiating sell on clauses when they let go of some of their most highly-rated players. And now there could be another possible windfall for the Hoops in the future, as Barcelona appear to hold an interest in one of their former players.

For quite a while, there has been speculation about the likes of Moussa Dembele and Kieran Tierney handing Celtic potential sell-on windfalls. But now, it looks like Jeremie Frimpong could beat them both in that regard.

As reported by Football Scotland, Frimpong features alongside Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Juan Foyth, Diogo Dalot and Thomas Meunier on Barcelona’s five-man shortlist according to transfer expert Gerard Romero.

The club’s current right-back, Ronald Araujo, is seen more as a central defender and Sergino Dest has been linked with a move away from Camp Nou for quite some time now. As a result, it is not hard to see why they might be on the look out for a player in that position, after strengthening a lot in other areas.

Former Celtic star linked with Barcelona move

After their season opening 0-0 draw against Rayo Vallecano, Xavi will be keen to add more options, and Frimpong will definitely bring something different to the table if he is signed by the La Liga giants.

We saw his potential at Celtic before he ended up joining Bayer Leverkusen in January 2021, and he has continued to shine there as well.

There’s a long way to go from speculation to an actual move. But if this plays through, Frimpong could bring a healthy sell-on windfall for the Hoops.

Bayer Leverkusen are believed to have signed Frimpong from Celtic in a deal that could rise up to £11.5 million and they would be expected to look for significantly more in order to part ways with the youngster.
