Scott Brown makes incredible admission about Celtic exit

Scott Brown’s career at Celtic came to arguably the worst end possible. The club failed in their quest to win 10IAR, as they finished 25 points behind the Rangers in the Premiership and did not end up winning any other trophy either. On top of that, Broony made his Parkhead exit without any fans in the stadium.

For a player so iconic and who had won so much with Celtic, he certainly deserved a better ending to his career at Parkhead than that, but it is what it is.

Brown would continue playing even after leaving Celtic though, by taking a player-coach role at Aberdeen. That did not end well either, as manager Stephen Glass was shown the exit door in the middle of a poor season for the Dons and Broony would depart before the end of the campaign as well. He ultimately decided to hang up his boots after that, without any fanfare and is now managing Fleetwood Town in the third tier of English football.

Brown has now admitted that he should have probably retired when he left Celtic. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, he told Sky Sports:

"“We didn’t win ‘the ten’ at Celtic, and I knew I was wanting to leave. I got that opportunity to go into coaching, to help Stephen Glass in Aberdeen.“I should maybe have retired then, but I wanted to go and try to show I still had it. I did in a couple of games, but to do the Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday and Wednesday – it definitely takes a lot out of you.“I enjoyed my time up in Aberdeen, it was a great insight into understanding a coaching role and learning. It was the right time for me to retire, even though I had 14 months left on my contract. I had retired three or four days and had the opportunity to come down to Fleetwood.”"

It is safe to say that Brown deserved a big ending at Celtic but did not get that, thanks to the disaster of a season that was the 2020/21 campaign. If the Hoops had actually managed to win 10IAR, it would have been the fairy tale ended to his career but it was not to be.

Ultimately, if he had retired after that season, it would have been anti-climactic anyway. But then, that was the case at Aberdeen as well, and perhaps even worse, as it came out of nowhere and he did not have a long-term connection with the club either.

Broony is not someone who would be losing sleep over it though and is expected to be completely committed to the job at hand right now, and that is to be the best manager possible for Fleetwood Town.
