Celtic have an impressive list of goalkeepers in their ranks at the club right now. Joe Hart is the undisputed starter right now. He has done a wonderful job not only with the first-team gloves but also as a leader, ever since joining from Tottenham Hotspur last summer. Back then, a lot of eyebrows were raised at the move but he has proven the critics wrong and then some.
On the other hand, the club have brought in Benjamin Siegrist this summer. He was one of the best goalkeepers in the Premiership during his time at Dundee United and could very well compete with Hart. Scott Bain is also capable cover between the posts, while the club have allowed Vasilis Barkas and Conor Hazard to leave on loan.
Even in terms of their B Team, Celtic are stacked in the position. Many believe Tobi Oluwayemi could be the first-team goalkeeper in the future. On the other hand, they have also brought in former Chelsea and Bournemouth youth star, Josh Clarke, this summer. Could the Hoops have missed the boat on one shot-stopper though?
Jude Smith is a goalkeeper that Celtic let go last summer, but he seems to be making waves of his own and has joined Newcastle United.
Released Celtic player completes Newcastle United move
Smith spent the previous season at East Fife and played plenty of first-team football there. And he has earned himself a move to Newcastle United, after impressing on trial for them.
Newcastle United announced on their official website that Smith has been handed a two-year contract by the club.
Thus, it does look like Smith has taken his game to the next level ever since leaving Celtic. That is great to see, because even if he had stayed on at Parkhead, he was not going to get many first-team opportunities. We can only wish him the best at Newcastle United and hope he has a great time there.
