Celtic have already made a number of additions to their squad this summer. But Ange Postecoglou has not ruled out the possibility of bringing more new faces in before the ongoing transfer window slams shut. And interestingly, it looks like the club have their eyes set on a Chelsea midfielder, who has struggled for playing time at Stamford Bridge in recent years.

Celtic saw both Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton depart the club at the end of last season and the only midfielder that they have brought in this summer, till now, is Aaron Mooy. There are still question marks over whether he is the right signing or not though. Thus, it is very possible that the Hoops feel that they still need to strengthen in the middle of the park.

And as reported by Football Insider, Celtic have submitted an offer for Chelsea’s Ross Barkley. Postecoglou has given the green light and the club are keen on a season-long loan move.

There seem to be some conflicting reports regarding the nature of the offer though. As tweeted out by Simon Phillips, Barkley has a permanent offer from Celtic:

Celtic have reportedly submitted offer for Chelsea midfielder

Barkley was considered as the next big thing in English football when he first broke into the Everton first-team.

His career has faded away over the years though and at this point of time, he finds himself struggling to break into Thomas Tuchel’s side. As a result, a move away from Stamford Bridge looks like the best step for him moving forward.

While he has not been in great form in recent years, there is no question about Barkley’s talent and potential. Perhaps a manager like Postecoglou can get the best out of him.

It remains to be seen if he ends up at Celtic Park or not, with there believed to be interest from several Premier League clubs as well.
